  • Kenya is a case of two countries orbiting in parallel pathways
These are the two faces of Kenya — two realities in a tense, uneasy co-existence. One Kenya makes two steps forward, another back-pedals three steps. It is a country of beautiful dreams and ugly nightmares; a country where, while the leadership suffers from bouts of political sclerosis, a restless youth bomb waits to explode.
  • Brand Kenya is suffocating under the stench of rotten governance
As developed economies undergo massive downsizing — some would say rightsizing — developing countries such as Kenya need to look for opportunities to exploit even as they learn valuable lessons from the mistakes that created this crisis.
  • Kenyans have buried shame along with patriotism
Greed, impunity, smallness of mind, and indifference to suffering: these are the tenets of what appears to be the fastest growing religion this side of the misery kingdom. It is a gospel practiced by the political apostolate and encouraged by a chorus of hosannas from the power elite and tribal congregations. Shame and honour are endangered and may soon be extinct. How do we know this?
  • It's only tyrants who live in mortal fear of people power
In the absence of discernible ideological fault-lines between the coalition partners, and the lack of a true opposition, the obvious differentiator becomes the glaring socio-economic dichotomy: the haves and have-nots; the rich and the poor; the privileged and the marginalised; the smooth fat cats versus the scrawny, skinny rats. It is a fault line just as dangerous as ethnic rivalry and enmity.
  • How rich is Kenya, really?
And therein lies the problem. The illusion of national riches is used as the pretext to plunder the economy. According to these people, it is okay to splash and binge away without a care as long the 'cow' continues to produce milk, never mind that the 'cow' is emaciated and barely on its feet!
