There are thousands of different varieties of cosmetics for you to choose for your daily wear, as well as a million different ways to apply them. It’s no wonder why so many women are confused on how to properly apply their cosmetics. You can purchase the most expensive, top-quality cosmetics available, but if you don’t know how apply it, the end result—your look—will not be a positive one.

Color Selection

One of the most important aspects to buying cosmetics is to know the colors that will enhance your skin tone. Different skin tones and skin types need different cosmetic colors in order to enhance their beauty, so what works on one person may not work on you. The first step here is to determine what your skin tone is, which is a simple process. If you tan easily and do not burn, then you most likely have a yellow to olive undertone. If you tend to not tan or burn first and then tan, then you most likely have a rosy or ruddy skin tone.

Remember, the determination of skin tone is most important when it comes to choosing foundation. This is the base so you need it to match as close as possible to your natural skin color. The ultimate goal is to use foundation to neutralize the undertones that are present in your skin. You will most likely have to try a few different shades before you find the one that is an exact match to your natural skin tone.

Eyes

Buying the right colored cosmetics for your eyes is important, as you want to choose the colors and hues that will enhance and enlighten the natural color of your eyes. People with green eyes, for instance, can wear shades of purple because this significantly brings out the green color, thereby making their eyes look brighter and larger. If your eyes are blue, you can wear brown-colored cosmetics. Warm shades are going to contrast with the coolness of the blue, making them stand out. Green- and gold-colored cosmetics both work very well with brown eyes, as both shades pick up the colored flecks found in brown eyes.

There are even specific cosmetics colors available that work well on hazel eyes. Deep green and pale yellow, in particular, will make hazel eyes pop. The idea here is to apply the shadow of your choice, and then use a liner brush dipped in water to line the outside of the eye to enhance the hazel color as much as possible. By wearing purple or green, you bring out the green in hazel eyes, and by wearing gold, brown, and blue, you bring out the brown.

Application

The actual application process involved with cosmetics is crucial, for even with the right colors you need to apply the makeup properly. Foundation should always be light and natural-looking, and always try to stick to a toned-down natural look for the daytime. You can play up your eyes but leave the lips and cheeks more neutral, and vice versa. You can have a lot of fun with cosmetics for the nighttime, where you have more freedom with color and brightness. Just make sure to never overdo it and that the makeup style you go with is going to be suited to the occasion.
