Your skin covers the largest area on your body and is the first line of defence against a host of diseases and external organisms that can cause these diseases. And good looking skin radiates health and is attractive to everyone. Therefore, taking care of your skin involves avoiding any type of products that can harm it and recently the use of organic skin products falls into the category of safe products. But taking a look at some of the worst products or things that be used on skin, or their effects can damage the skin, we find the following:

1. Cigarettes

Cigarette smoking can not only cause lung cancer but also greatly affects your skin. Smoking reduces the blood flow to your skin and results in dryness and wrinkles at an early age. Cutting down on cigarette smoking can reduce the damage done to your skin.

2. Alcohol

Alcohol is bad for your skin as it dehydrates it, leaving it dry and irritated. Heavy drinking can lead to swollen blood vessels causing red veins to appear on the skin. Reducing your weekly alcohol intake and increasing your vitamin C and water intake will greatly increase your skin health.

3. Tanning Booths

Instant tanning booths are a craze among teens and those seeking that bronzed look. Too much exposure to the sun's rays is harmful to the skin and tanning beds are no better with overexposure leading to risk of serious skin burns. Apply good quality sun screen in the sun and avoid that tanning bed.

4. Sugar

Taking too much sugar affects the skin collagen repair function and makes the skin appear dull. Sodas, sweets and candy should be taken in moderation or supplemented with a product like L-glutamine which boosts your brain function without affecting your skin. If your sugar cravings are too high, think of replacing sugary foods with nuts.

5. The Wrong Skin Products

Knowledge is power and if you do not know your skin type, you are probably reducing your skin health. If your skin is oily, you should avoid dry skin products and if it's dry, you should avoid products meant for oily skin.

6. Fatty Foods

A daily trip to the fast food establishment will lead to the build up of fat in your skin pores. This leads to pimples and in serious conditions even acne. Fat clogs your pores and does not allow them to breathe making it look tired. Avoid taking in too much processed foods.

7. Chemical Based Cosmetics

The use of cosmetics made from synthetic chemicals can lead to serious skin problems. The chemicals can also affect your health due to absorption to the blood stream. This is one thing that can be avoided by simply turning to organic skin products and organic body products.

8. Hair Products

Keep shampoos, shower gels and conditioners off your face. When washing your hair, make sure you keep these off your face as they contain harsh chemicals that can harm your skin.

9. Stress Inducing Products

If you have any product that causes stress to you, it could lead to poor skin health. Sometimes a warm bath would help in this but avoiding stress is essential for your skin health.

10. Soap

Soap can clean your body but one should avoid using it on their face. Your facial skin is very sensitive and some soap is harsh on it. Use facial cleansers, facial soaps, and moisturisers instead and your facial skin will thank you for it.
