Do you want the whitest, brightest smile and healthiest mouth possible? Of course you do, a healthy mouth is a wonderful thing that can actually make you feel better about yourself and increase your confidence and even your happiness. However, to get your teeth as pearly white as you'd like, you will need to know more about dentist whitening procedures. What types of procedures are available? How do they work?

Actually, there are several types of whitening procedures available. All of them make use of some form of whitening agent - usually a gel or other oxidizing agent that will stick to the teeth. You will even find that there are teeth whitening procedures that can be used in your home, though these are usually far less effective than dentist whitening procedures. When you visit a dentist to whiten your teeth, you will have a couple of options.

First, you can make use of high-intensity whitening that uses a stronger gel than home kits do. This is the usual form of whitening used for most patients. However, you might also have the option of laser whitening. An oxidizing gel is still used, but high intensity laser light is used to excite the gel and provide better results. This form of dentist whitening is not available through all dental offices, so make sure you check with your dental office to make sure you have access to it.

Regardless, it is highly recommended that you opt for dentist whitening procedures, rather than using in-home kits if you want to see real results. While the kits are capable of lightening your teeth a shade or two, dentist whitening can turn them brilliant white and help keep them that way for years to come. Find a dentist who specializes in the different whitening techniques and you will have several options for your needs.
