America was never intended to be a democracy and it never has been; despite the lies you've been told all your life. The U.S. constitution only gave the vote to white, male landowners; even poor white males were not allowed the vote . . . and they ignored blacks, women, Hispanics, "Native Americans" and others they left out. Slowly this rule was changed until almost 200 years later in 1964 when every adult was "given the right to vote", but that's not the point. What are you allowed to vote for?

America is a country born of hypocrisy and nurtured in racism and oppression. How stupendous a hypocrite do you have to be to write a document that declares "All men are created equal" while at that very moment you have two hundred human beings chained in your back yard working as your slaves? America's political system (which was designed by these hypocrites) is no better that a shell game which gives rich people control and the rest of us the shaft.

Yes, America needs you, but for what? Certainly not to make decisions about what will happen in this country! They need you to die on a sand dune when they want to control Iraqi oil fields, or to pay thousands in taxes every year to pay for their limousines, cruise missiles and nuclear weapons, or to work for minimum wage in their stores and factories to pay for their mansions and swimming pools.

A democracy is a society which allows all of its members to have a say in what that society does. When was the last time you voted on whether or not the government will raise taxes? How did you vote on whether the U.S. would fight the Viet Nam War, or whether to raise the price of the 28 cent postage stamp, or whether to pay millions of dollars to tobacco farmers, or whether to pay $1,200.00 apiece for army toilet seats or whether to kill a quarter of a million people in Iraq and call it a "Desert Storm"?.

Did you vote to spend billions to support murderous dictatorships in South Africa, Iran, Iraq, Chile, Brazil, Israel, Viet Nam, Zaire, Haiti and dozens of other countries around the world? Did you vote to assassinate hundreds of political leaders around the globe? Did you vote to fly cocaine into America on U.S. government airplanes, which was sold to drug dealers to raise money for illegal arms shipments for Nicaraguan Contras? Did you vote to invade forty-six countries since World War II?

I know I sure didn't get to vote on any of that stuff. The powers that run this country clearly don't trust you or me to make those decisions. So the "founding fathers" set up a con game where powerless shmoes like us participate in a phony process to make us feel like we have some control over the government.

There's an old used car salesman trick: "Do you want to buy the red car, or this nifty blue one over here?" I might not want a car at all, or I might want a van or a motorcycle, but if I accept the choices I've been given, I'll end up with a blue or red car.

A representative plutocracy (that's a system where you pick which rich people will make decisions for you) works just like the used car salesman's trick. Do you want a Democratic millionaire or a Republican millionaire to be president? One set of rich guys puts up a candidate, and so does the other set of rich guys, and those two are the only real choice you have. If you don't have millions of dollars, or you can't raise millions of dollars, you only have a mouse's chance at a cat convention of getting elected president (and you're much more likely to be eaten alive!).

Political campaigns become an orgy of prevarication . . . One rich guy tells one set of lies, the other rich guy tells a slightly different set of lies, and you get to base your vote on which set of lies you like the best.

"I'll cut taxes!" . . . "I'll give you better schools!" . . . "I'll cut crime!" . . . "I'll cut welfare!" . . . "I'll build more jails!" . . . "I'll create more jobs!" . . . "I'll cut the deficit!" . . . "I'll end the war!" . . . "I'll start the war!" . . . "I'll put a chicken in every pot!" . . . "I'll keep those Negroes in their place!"

After they get elected, politicians pay no attention whatsoever to what they promised the people; they know the only thing they really have to do is repay the rich people who put millions of dollars into their campaign funds to pay for all those TV ads that got them elected. Rich people and corporations continue to pay congressmen, senators and presidents millions of dollars once they're in office through their lobbyists; and believe me, they get the government to do what they want done. Will a politician really build those schools if the tobacco lobby wants that money paid to them in subsidies? Will they really cut taxes if that money is needed to pay McDonald Douglas a million dollars apiece for new cruise missiles?

No!

Who will these politicians listen to; General Electric or you? The Tobacco Lobby or me? The American Medical Association or your sick grandmother? And why should they? The American people are idiotic enough to get all caught up in the electoral dog and pony show, and then go to sleep and pay no attention to what these politicians do in our name with billions of our tax dollars for the next four years! When the next "election" rolls around, people have forgotten the last set of lies and eagerly lap up the new set of lies politicians have come up with for the current election.

My mother used to tell me that America's political system wasn't perfect, but it was all we had (fuzzy thinking: WE don't have it). She spent a lifetime supporting Democratic candidates that she described as "the lesser of two evils". A little thought would show that she was admitting the system is evil; it gives you a choice between one candidate who wants to cut off your arm, and another who wants to cut of your hand.

Call me a nut, but I don't want anything cut off, and I find it immoral to participate in an evil system that's figuratively out to collect my body parts, or literally collecting body parts from Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, Panama, Grenada, South Africa, Iran, Palestine, Afganistan, Iraq and elsewhere.

Black people need our own systems . . . economic, educational, military, philosophical and yes, political systems. . . that respond to our needs, not to the needs of the people who control us. Participation in the U.S. political system can mean rewards for a person or even for a community, but to get them you have to immerse yourself in what is essentially an evil con game.

If you sleep with pigs, you'll wake up covered in shit.
