Imagine a life limited by terror and panic, in which every action is scrutinized and even the most inconsequential decision is angst-ridden. Hours are exhausted studying daily responsibilities or circumstances that the majority of people deal with easily. According to the National Institute of Health, better than 40 million adults in the United States who endure anxiety disorders have this sort of reality.

Concordantly, nearly 18 percent of adults living in the United States suffer a kind of a panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, broad anxiety disorder or phobias, such as a social phobia, agoraphobia, or a specific phobia, which embody common fears of things like germs, elevators or heights.

Are you like them? Many people aren't sure how to find out if their natural concerns have transformed into a phobia. A phobia is classified as an unfounded fear or dread. When someone meets a phobia trigger, they may become panicked with increased heartbeat and breathing. Frequently, that person may begin to feel a choking sensation or their hands get sweaty. The person might also hear ringing in their ears and find they are powerless to concentrate on the atmosphere.

As with any unpleasant consciousness, people may try great lengths to elude the incident, places or things that initiate them. If someone has a social phobia, they may avoid social settings, or if it is a common phobia, like spiders or coffins, those who have a phobia will try to elude those triggers.

The anxiety disorder phobia might be one of the most difficult to solve because related coping problems often result from the anxiety / phobia relationship, such as melancholy or drug addiction. In fact, many people who suffer from one anxiety disorder frequently acquire additional anxiety disorders.

Though it may be useful to meet with a mental health professional to diagnose your phobia and inspect the cause of it, the central step is beginning treatment for the anxiety and phobia. There are several therapies for successfully treating a phobia, including drugs, talk therapy, systematic desensitization, hypnotherapy, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Typically, drugs for anxiety and phobia treatment can include sedatives, which actually worsen the difficulty because they don't deal with the elemental reason for the phobia. Other mental health professionals choose talk therapy; however, discussing or even thinking about the situation or atmosphere of the principal anxiety phobia can cause a panic attack.

Traditional hypnosis - which merely assists the client to maintain a relaxed state of hypnosis and then giving post-hypnotic suggestions or commands can be very effective if the person is amenable to it. However, a lot of people with phobias rebuff the idea that they will be more comfortable and calm when they are faced with the situation or environment that prompts anxiety from the associated phobia.

Knowing the challenges and even hindrances of other types of phobia treatments, systematic desensitization can be a helpful treatment. It is the practice of gradually desensitizing a client to the trigger that causes the anxiety disorder phobia and resulting panic attacks.

For example, if a client wishes to prevail over a phobia of dogs, she is asked to first be seated and visualize a dog until she is comfortable with the image. Then, she is given a photograph of a dog to look at. Perhaps she progresses to embracing a stuffed dog and so on until she is able to be in the presence of a dog without the panic symptoms - possibly even touch it.

The main point is that, following each progression, the client acknowledges that nothing unpleasant happened and that she is secure. If at any time she undergoes fear or panic, the therapist asks the client to revert to the preceding step until she has regained a sense of ease.

Thankfully, there is a means to make this process less frightening and painful: Systematic desensitization can be carried out as the client is in a relaxed hypnosis state. While in a relaxed hypnotic trance, the subject would be asked to execute the same actions, however she would actually be feeling very peaceful as she imagined herself feeling relaxed and comfortable in the situation that provokes anxiety.

Just as in the live systematic desensitization that takes place without the assistance of hypnosis, if the client suffers any anxiety connected to her phobia, she is instructed to go back to the previous step. The only shortcoming is that this method can necessitate a fair amount of time to beget reprieve from a phobia.

The fastest and most effective technique to abolish a phobia is a Neuro-Linguistic Programming method called a Visual/Kinesthetic Disassociation. It often alleviates the client of a long-term phobia in only one session. The system actually programs subjects to disassociate, or mentally step outside of themselves at the time that they might typically experience their anxiety attack. The process literally splits the subjective emotions from the mental images that cause the panic attack in the first place.

CONCLUSION: While any phobia treatment that someone commences will require work and commitment, systematic desensitization coupled with hypnosis can offer an effective cure. But the NLP Visual/Kinesthetic Disassociation can offer a solution that almost seems magical by allowing the client to overcome the phobia quickly with significantly less - perhaps even no discomfort or panic.
