Keyword Domino Effect: Powerful Yet Little Understood Principle

The definitive factor that will determine whether your online business succeeds or not, is the manner in which you went about conducting your premarket research; specifically your choice of keywords!

Consider the following scenario:

Two individuals named Mr. A and Mr. B are confronted by a 20ft solid wall that they have to scale if they are to continue on their journey.

a) Now Mr. A is of the gung-ho type, in great shape and with an overabundance of energy that he is not afraid to exhibit and use. He immediately rushes full sprint towards the wall confident in the knowledge that his athletic prowess will allow him to scale it in one might leap!

b) Mr. B is of a more cautious nature, of questionable athletic and outdoor ability that he does however compensate for with a natural tendency to analyze and research any situation in depth.

As Mr. A attempts to scale the wall through brute force, applying his formidably strong and extensive 6.3 ft frame to the task, Mr. B surveys the area and notices a ladder hidden in the bushes to his right. Mr. B drags the ladder across and leans it against the wall and casually, with minimal effort, climbs atop and over it. Mr. A is still applying brute force, as amply reflected by his grunting and heavy breathing, but to no avail. His energy and effort is wasted!

This hypothetical scenario represents the two types of online marketers found on the internet. Unfortunately most online marketers tend to follow Mr. A's example, rushing headlong into the pursuit of a new market without conducting proper research. The result is that sooner rather than later they encounter the same kind of brick wall and are unable to circumnavigate it like Mr. B who had no difficulty because he did his research!

Okay enough with the metaphors, time for the down-and-dirty internet marketing explanation!

Both Mr. A and Mr. B start off at the same time and the wall represents their marketing-related choices, most specifically the keywords on which their targeted markets are themed. Mr. A jumps right in without proper keyword analysis because frankly he knows no better. He merely assumes that the number of searches per day or per month for any given keyword reflects the financial viability of a market themed upon those keywords.

Mr. B with his cautious nature obviously conducts more in depth and accurate keyword research and eventually narrows down a selection of keywords themed around a niche market. His discovery and use of the ladder is a metaphoric representation of that discovery and pursuit of the niche market.

While Mr. A is busy making no progress because he chose a far too competitive market flush with more knowledgeable and better positioned as well as older competitors (hence his inability to scale the wall), Mr. B with little effort soon finds that his website is getting enough search engine and online exposure to draw significant amounts of traffic all because he had identified and pursued a market with next to no competition (niche).

Keyword Domino Effect

This metaphoric example illustrates the powerful effect of proper or improper keyword selection. Every, and any online market has an intimate relationship with the keywords upon which it is structured, and those foundation keywords will ultimately determine whether any marketing campaign will meet with success or failure. I call this intimate relationship between a keyword(s) and its market and the resultant series of events with which those keywords influence the online progression (or lack thereof) of a website to the tipping point of success (or failure) ...the Keyword Domino Effect.

In other words the Keyword Domino Effect defines the innate tendency to online success or failure depending on whether the appropriate keywords are chosen or not. In fact much novice online marketer frustration and failure can be blamed squarely on the the Keyword Domino Effect!
