The National Museum one day tour

The national museum is situated on Museum Hill Road, 5 Minutes away from the city centre. It houses an extensive ornithological collection representing the most of Kenya’s thousand odd species of birds. The geology Gallery contains a great deal of interesting information on plate tectonics and the life cycle of volcanoes, which is particularly relevant to the rift valley regions.

The gallery of contemporary East Africa Art is an exhibition area for Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan artists to display their art work.

The prehistoric Gallery houses the paleontology exhibits, focusing in particular on the story of human evolution. Within the museum grounds is a snake park with live African snakes and is definitely worth a visit in your Museum one day tour. It also has an aquarium.

Kenya Railway Museum 1 day tour

Nairobi exists because of the Uganda Railway. The Kenya Railway Museum is fascinating and should not be missed in your one day tour. It is filled with wonderful historical photographs and relics from old trains, as well as actual trains you can climb onto. One of them is the carriage in which Charles Ryall was sleeping in 1900 when a lion seized him through the window, broke his neck and dragged him to his death. The story of the Kenyan-Uganda rail line construction will be a satisfying experience in your one day tour of the railway museum

One day tour at Maasai Market

There are several Maasai markets around the city; these are the up market curio stores that tend to be located in the hotels and safe tourist areas, but are also likely to be more expensive than the more traditional markets. If you want the Nairobi experience, the more traditional and cheaper markets are where you should go in your one day tour.
Here you can bargain on the prices, these markets are worth a visit and are relatively safe. Here, Maasai women sell beaded jewelry, batik, baskets and other traditional crafts. It is open on Tuesdays adjacent to slip road off Moi Avenue and on Saturdays at the high court parking.

Karen Blixen Museum day tour

The story of Karen Blixen was made famous in the film “Out of Africa”. The Karen Blixen Museum is located in the house where Karen Christence Blixen-Finecke lived from 1914 to 1931. It is a beautiful old colonial house that along with the gardens have been restores to their former glory. It is situated in Karen, about 20 minutes from the centre of Nairobi. Make sure you watch out of Africa back home after your Karen Blixen one day tour.

Day tour at Kenyatta international Conference Centre

This is situated off Harambee Avenue and for a panoramic view of the city; this is the place to visit in the one day tour. It has a viewing level on the 28th floor and on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro (in Tanzania) and Mount Kenya can be seen.

1-day Tour at the Nairobi National Park

Virtually within earshot of downtown Nairobi, the 113sq km area covered by Nairobi National Park consists primarily of un spoilt plains and woodland. Approximately 80 species of large mammals-excluding elephants-make this region their home. Should transit visitors not be able to get to one of the other closer Kenyan parks, an effort should be made to ensure that they visit this one day tour check point, to get an idea of what a Kenyan safari is all about and hopefully, see some interesting animal interaction.

Adjacent to the Nairobi National Park is the Animal Orphanage, which is worth a special mention; it provides shelter to stray and orphaned animals. The animals once well enough or old enough are released back in the wild again.

One day tour at the Giraffe Manor (Giraffe centre)

The giraffe manor is situated on 120 acres of land a few kilometres outside Nairobi in Karen. In 1974 Jock Leslie-Melvin and his wife Betty bought the land and moved five baby endangered Rothschild Giraffes onto the property where they successfully reared them. The original giraffes have subsequently had their offspring that now live on the property.

It is now open to visitors and guest can feed and photograph the tame giraffes and warthogs that wander around the manor gardens. The feeding of giraffes at such close range will complete your picture for the Kenyan one day tour.

The Bomas of Kenya

This cultural centre is located in Langata, just up from Nairobi National Park and not far away from the giraffe centre-South of Nairobi. Here you can see a display of traditional homesteads or Bomas, watch traditional dances and hear songs from the country’s many ethnic groups-there are daily performances. This one day tour is especially popular with cultural enthusiasts.

One day Sport Tours

The Nairobi region offers excellent conditions for the practice of sporting facilities, in particular, golf. There are 40 golf courses in Kenya, of which 12 are 18-hole, 10 of which are used for championship events and 6 are located within a radius of about 20km from Nairobi. There are also a number of sports clubs that offer excellent tennis facilities. Cricket is a popular sport; other sports include rugby and the inevitable football. The sporting enthusiast will be spoilt for choice in their active one day tour itinerary.

Safety precautions

Like any major city world wide it is relatively safe to walk around during the day, it is however strongly recommended not to wear flashy jewelry, watches or even use your mobile phone in the city centre.

If you want to walk around Nairobi to experience the buzz and enormous vitality of East Africa’s largest city without the hassle normally associated with being a tourist, try not to carry a backpack or cameras, dress simple and blend in to pass for a local, and generally be alert of your surrounding.
