Don't Let this Happen to You the Day Before Your Wedding

It was the day before my wedding and all things were meticulously prepared. The cake was set to arrive at the reception on time. The banquet hall was lined up and the decorations were all in place. My dress was hanging in (Michelle’s) my maid of honor's closet so that when it was time to get ready we could all go over there and help each other with makeup and clothes. All the invites were out in plenty of time and I could finally sit down and take a deep breath. Ahhh. This time tomorrow I will be living my dream life with the man I loved so much. All was well in my world. Or so I thought.

The bachelorette party was an hour away and I had to gather my last minute nick-knacks to make sure I had everything I needed to prepare for the big day.

As I arrived at her house, everyone was already there and they had arranged for a spa night for all of the girls. I couldn't wait. This included professional nail technicians, hair dressers, and jewelry representatives showing up with their finest wares. We had a masseuse and even a tanning tech ready to spray on a beautiful golden glow. This was the perfect party, and the perfect night!

As the night went on, however, we had decided to try on our gowns, and see how we looked with our tans, our new do's and our jewelry.

As all of the bridesmaids tried on their dresses I got tears in my eyes to see them all there, in the colors of choice, and smiling back at me with the same love they had shown me over the years of friendship. I loved them and I knew they loved me as well.

After being "heckled" by my girlfriends to try on my dress I finally agreed that one last trial would be the finale for the night, as we were getting tired and I wanted to be fully rested. It was already past midnight and the morning was coming soon enough.

Michelle helped me with the train, as Becca reached for my zipper.

I heard a gasp and the room was silenced. It seemed everything had stopped in time.

I couldn't fit into my dress? That could not be!

I had been losing weight I thought to myself. I did not ever seem to gain weight when I was so busy. How could this happen to me, the day before my wedding?

My mind raced and I panicked. OMG! There would be no time to lose weight and no time to alter the dress.

Needless to say, a quiet sadness put a damper on the night, but we all gathered together our best resources and thought of a temporary solution.

We ended up using some velcro from Michelle's sewing closet and velcro'd a strip of fabric from the train (thank God it was long!) and added about a 2 inch strip right where the zipper was supposed to come together. This might just work as a temporary solution. The veil would hide it’s unfashionable look.

This was not my ideal moment, and yet now, I look back and laugh, but if you are anything like me, I seemed to gain weight as the stress increased and because of the stress, I could not count the many mindless times I ate and didn't even realize it. So, the pounds increased and I didn’t even know it.

This may seem small, and in the scope of life it really is. But it could change the mood of your wedding party and add an unnecessary fear to the wedding night.

My suggestion is to avoid nibbling foods as you go through the planning, walk on a daily basis and do not have what I call, “mindless” eating where you eat and you don’t even realize what, or when you are eating. And please, take some Velcro with you wherever you go!
