Asthma is a chronic disease affecting the respiratory system. During the course of an asthma attack, airways, which carry oxygen in and out of the lungs, tend to tighten and hence reduce the flow of oxygen coming to the lungs. The airways also become inflamed and lined up with mucus. Such symptoms may happen several times in a day or week, or a lot less often. The gravity of the attacks also differs.

Different triggers may be responsible for asthma attacks and the breathlessness that accompanies it. Asthma may also cause loss of consciousness and chest pain. It is a very grave condition and can sometimes prove to be lethal: indeed, while 300 million people suffer from asthma worldwide, asthma attacks are responsible for the death of an estimated 250,000 people each year.

People with asthma also suffer from its side effects in their everyday life. Sleeplessness is a regular experience which may lead to daytime fatigue, and may affect one’s professional and personal life. The World Health Organization even acknowledges that "reduced activity levels" and "school and work absenteeism" are common side effects of asthma. Exercising will usually be harder for people with asthma, which may for example be a social isolation factor for a child.

If asthma cannot be definitively cured, there are different ways to prevent and relieve the symptoms, making it possible for everybody with asthma to exercise, stay in shape and lead a normal life. With the appropriate treatments, there are no reasons why somebody that has asthma should not be allowed to enjoy an active life.

Various factors are able to trigger an asthma attack. Some can be very simple things like the humidity and temperature of the air. However, the most common ones are natural indoor and outdoor allergens, such as house dust mites, cockroaches, spore and pollen as well as pollution from chemical compounds, such as the ones found in perfumes and perfumed products, tobacco smoke or fossil fuel related air pollution. Medications such as penicillin or aspirin as well as certain foods, such as milk or peanuts, in case of food allergies, can also trigger asthma. Asthma attack may also happen after exercising.

Your psychological state can also be a contributing factor in causing an asthmatic attack. Tension, anxiety and emotional stress are all able to trigger it. Many patients experiencing an asthmatic attack also make their condition worse by falling prey to panic, a very normal response to the frightening experience they must live through.

To better prevent asthmatic attacks, all of these triggers should be avoided as much as possible. Allergies are also responsible for triggering asthma attacks and allergy treatment may be used in order to prevent them. There are nonetheless many types of asthma treatment. In the short-term, asthma attack treatment will give relief in the case of an asthmatic attack. Asthma attack treatment will readily provide asthma relief, but people with moderate or severe asthma must use a long-term asthma treatment.

There are various forms of bronchial asthma treatment available out there, but some might not work out for you. Bronchial asthma treatment as well as allergy treatment also have numerous side effects if used regularly and for an extended period of time, especially drugs containing corticosteroids or Beta2-adrenergic receptor agonists, with the latter having cardiac side effects and increasing the risk of respiratory death. Such problems may explain why roughly half of the people who suffer from asthma use some form of alternative treatment, such as natural asthma treatment.

Even if little evidence proves the efficiency of therapies such as air ionizers or chiropractic, other sorts of natural asthma treatments such as homeopathy, yoga practices and hypnosis have shown notable results as asthma treatment. Hypnosis, just like yoga or meditation, albeit in a much faster and easier fashion, provides asthma relief because it is able to help handle the emotional aspect of asthma thanks to relaxation. Through hypnosis you will be much more relaxed, which will help reduce the occurrences of asthmatic attacks. It will also make you able to better handle the panic and fear during an attack, hence greatly reducing the symptoms. Most asthmatics are aware when an attack is imminent, and specific hypnotic techniques exist which enable the asthmatic to put a stop to an impending attack.

Asthma is a serious respiratory condition, which can prove very disabling and at times even lethal. Medication will help you with the physical symptoms and may give quick relief in case of an attack. However such drugs have many undesirable side effects, particularly if used too often. NLP and hypnotherapy will reduce your need for medication. It is also an efficient asthma treatment and asthma attack treatment and may help you reduce asthmatic symptoms.
